Today marks the 25th Anniversary of Australia’s Liberation of Timor-Leste. On September 20, 1999, the Australian-led mission began, bringing hope, peace, and freedom to the people of Timor-Leste after years of conflict and oppression. Australian troops, part of INTERFET, played a crucial role in restoring peace and order, standing in solidarity with the Timorese in their fight for independence.
This mission showcased Australia’s dedication to justice, security, and human rights in the region. The brave men and women in uniform faced numerous challenges but their unwavering efforts paved the way for Timor-Leste’s independence, establishing it as one of the youngest and most resilient nations globally.
