Battle of Long Tan Commemoration: Honouring Australian Vietnam Veterans at Club Evans

On Vietnam Veterans Day, we pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who served in the Vietnam War. Among the pivotal moments in Australia’s involvement was the Battle of Long Tan on 18 August 1966.

The Battle of Long Tan

Near the village of Long Tan, 108 young men from D Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment faced a daunting force of over 2,000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the Australians, with remarkable teamwork and courage, held their ground amidst heavy rain and relentless attacks. With artillery and resupply helicopters’ critical assistance, they repelled the enemy, inflicting significant losses.

The Battle of Long Tan stands as a testament to the spirit, resilience, and sacrifice of all Australian Vietnam War veterans. It symbolises the unwavering determination and courage displayed by those who served.
